Surrey business owners were rewarded for their entrepreneurial endeavors at the 2010 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards on October 21st, during small business week.
Brothers David and Edward Van Vliet of Van Brothers Forming Ltd. took home the Overall Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Alumni from the fourth class of the Douglas College Self Employment program, Van Brothers Forming Ltd. have been in business and undergone tremendous growth for the past fifteen years. They currently employ up to 45 employees, have gross annual revenues in the millions and expect a continuation of this growth for the coming years. Van Brothers Forming Ltd specializes in Architectural and Structural concrete for the industrial, institutional, and commercial industries. The Entrepreneur of the Year Awards recognizes graduates of the Douglas College Self Employment Program, 2010 marked the fifteenth year of the program and 3,000 businesses launched. This year, 28 finalists were nominated for awards in eight categories, plus the overall winner. The celebrations were held at the Executive Plaza Hotel in Coquitlam, and were attended by over 400 program alumni and special guests.
